Children’s Home Celebrates National Adoption Month with New Campaign

Pittsburgh, PA (November 10, 2020) /PressRelease.news/ – From November 11 -20, The Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center will celebrate National Adoption Month with Shine a Light on Adoption, a two-part campaign to spread awareness about adoption and engage the public in the organization’s adoption work.

The campaign will kick off this week with a virtual trivia game, Adoption Trivia: Then & Now. This activity will engage participants in a fun and informative way while addressing adoption topics throughout history. The trivia link will be open from November 11 to November 19. Prizes, including gift cards and a family fun package, will be awarded to three randomly selected participants. Participating is fun and easy. Visit bit.ly/AdoptionTrivia and test your knowledge.

The second part of Shine a Light on Adoption aims to boost awareness around adoption and encourage participation from foster and adoptive families, as well as the general public, through a points-based engagement contest on The Children’s Home social media networks. To participate in this part of the campaign, followers must engage with The Children’s Home and/or Adoption program Facebook pages. Followers will earn points for liking and sharing adoption awareness posts as well as posting their own adoption stories, photos, and more. A grand prize will be awarded to the participant who earns the most points between November 11 and November 19. To participate, visit facebook.com/ChildrensHomePgh beginning at 10 a.m. on November 11.

The Children’s Home has been placing children in loving homes since 1893.  One of the many families brought together through their adoption program was Jason and Susan, and daughters Danielle and Marigold.  Danielle and Marigold are biological sisters and were adopted through the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN) which is Pennsylvania’s foster care system.  Jason and Susan had a strong passion for adopting a child from the foster care system, and fostered Danielle and Marigold in hopes they could eventually become their forever family.  Jason and Susan quickly fell in love with the girls and spent time not only bonding with them and making them part of their family.

On August 21, 2018, three-year-old Danielle and six-year-old Marigold were placed with Jason and Susan and were adopted into their family, November 1, 2019.  Today, the girls continue to thrive in their home.  Danielle is an independent, helpful, athletic kindergartener who plays soccer and takes gymnastics.  Marigold, now in 3rd grade, and a student of violin and ballet is bright and artistic.  Jason and Susan are proud of the girls and how far they have come.  They also are continuing to foster in hopes of adopting another child to add to their family.

Shine a Light on Adoption will close on Friday, November 20, 3 p.m. with a Facebook live event. All trivia and contest winners will be announced at this time, but winners do not need to be present to win. To learn more about Shine a Light on Adoption and get involved, visit The Children’s Home Facebook page, facebook.com/ChildrensHomePgh

About The Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center

The Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center promotes the health and wellbeing of infants and children through services which establish and strengthen the family. Founded in 1893 as The Pennsylvania Children’s Home Society, the original purpose of the organization was to care for homeless children and place them in permanent homes, an early adoption model meant to substitute institutional orphanages.

The Adoption program continues to thrive today after 127 years of operation. In addition to Adoption, The Children’s Home manages Child’s Way, a daycare for medically fragile children, and the Pediatric Specialty Hospital.
