Pittsburgh, PA (December 1, 2020) /PressRelease.news/– Doors Open Pittsburgh, a non-profit organization, launches their holiday-themed virtual events for December. “As we all look for ways to stay connected this holiday season, DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh invites anyone into our family to celebrate the uniqueness of Pittsburgh with holiday-themed virtual events.”
Tour Stop 1: Pittsburgh Holiday Market
On Monday, December 7, we present “To Pittsburgh with love, from Germany: Holiday Market Tradition.” The Pittsburgh Holiday Market reflects the joys found in the German Christmas Markets of today and the past. We uncover the stories and sources of these traditions. This event will include a spokesperson from the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership as well, who will share some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the Market.
Tour Stop 2: The Bayernhof Museum
On Monday, December 14, we present “Bayernhof Museum: Music Boxes and Other Obscure History” virtual experience. We will be on-location for a peek inside one of Pittsburgh’s most unusual mansions – the Bayernhof Museum. This mansion contains a world-class collection of music boxes and other antique automatic music machines, as well as many other fascinating items.
Bayernhof was the private residence by Charles Brown III, founder and CEO of Gas-Lite Manufacturing Company. This 19,000-square-foot house includes a rooftop observatory, an indoor cave, a swimming pool with a 10-foot waterfall, 10 fireplaces, as well as a completely restored copper still.
Tour Stop 3: Engine House 25
On Monday, December 21st, we present “Holiday Cheers”. We will be on-location at the Engine House 25 Wines, a discreet and private wine cellar under the Clemente Museum. Head vintner, Duane Rieder, will share their winemaking process, the varietals, and how this amazing winery came to be! Participants can pre-order their wine to participate in a live tasting during the virtual event.
The virtual events, DOP Stories, are lived-streamed weekly on Monday evenings at 7:30pm – 8:15pm EST.
The DOP Stories series is being supported, in part, by these generous partners: Dollar Bank, UPMC and The Benter Foundation.
About Doors Open
DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh (non-profit, 501c3) is best known for presenting the annual DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh event every October. That two-day event celebrates our city’s heritage, architecture, and communities by providing behind-the-scenes access or just the opportunity to explore a diverse collection of buildings.
In 2020, DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh expanded to include monthly tours, called Specialty Tours. These tours are guided, either bus or walking. These tours provide a thematic tour experience in various neighborhoods and buildings beyond the geography of the annual event.
